About Alice Blue Collective

ABC was named to honor my grandmother’s renegade spirit. Born in 1900, she idolized Theodore Roosevelt’s daughter Alice, an unconventional firebrand. Already a celebrity at 17, Ms. Roosevelt sparked a trend with the gown she wore to her debut, in a color that came to be known as “Alice Blue.”

It was my grandmother’s favorite color, and my grandmother was my favorite person.

About Alice Blue Collective

My grandmother idolized Theodore Roosevelt’s daughter Alice, an unconventional firebrand. A celebrity by 17, Ms. Roosevelt sparked a trend with her debut ballgown, in a color that came to be known as “Alice Blue.”

Alice Blue was my grandmother’s favorite color; my grandmother was my favorite person, and I wanted to honor her renegade spirit.

I have always been an artist—taking classes at the St. Louis Art Museum throughout my childhood, studying art at NYU, and staying on in NY as an artist and artists’ assistant. Having worked as a florist’s shop-hand in high school, I returned to floristry when I came back to St. Louis.

My love of nature informs everything I do, and I strive to honor that love by mixing local, seasonal, and foraged flora with nursery flowers. I am experimenting with urban farming, producing ninebark, river birch, thornless blackberry and native grasses for my taller arrangements.

I also study herbalism with Rosemary Gladstar, and have a certificate in aromatherapy. My emphasis for the coming year is to develop a CSA program for flowers, food, and other farm offerings.

KIND WORDS

The Thanksgiving bouquet was incredibly beautiful. It lasted a good two weeks, then I pulled out a couple of wilted flowers, split it into two smaller bouquets, and used those until New Year’s.
